Thanks For Nothing

Thanks For Nothing

Digital art made into a screen print.

Design Brief

Thanks For Nothing was an sketch I came up with as a play on a Thank You Chinese food take-out box. I turned my very rough sketch into its digital form on Illustrator and then proceeded to print on film in two layers to expose on two screens. The first layer was just a dark shape to be the base color of the worms, and the top layer had the outlines and halftone dots. When printing, I mixed custom plastisol inks to create the color for the worms and utilized black and white for the outline to create boldness. It took some time for me to get my technique correct in holding the squeegee, but once I was able to position it right, the colors were coming out bold and beautiful.

This project really helped me to understand the layering concept in screen printing and the importance of bold lines along with the usefulness of halftone dots. This two color piece was extremely fun to make and see my digital artwork come to life. I even got so excited that I did two different color schemes.
